Can the Frankfurt Book Fair Save the Book Publishing Business?

September 23, 2014 | By: Yotam Kramer

It’s no secret that book publishers are suffering. The move to digital has been difficult. After expending considerable resources on digital production, many publishers have still not return on investment they were expecting. Why? Digitization makes book distribution much easier. The industry is flooded with free online books, including OER (Open Educational Resources) and IP violations. To make matters worse, all that cheap or free content means that people aren’t interested in paying for the latest digital publication.

Why do I believe that the Frankfurt Book Fair is part of the solution?

There are only a few events where industry insiders can meet in one place. When booksellers, publishers, authors, teachers, educators, journalists, analysts, and software vendors come together, an engaging and productive discussion often occurs, where problems can be addressed and possible solutions discovered.

Times are changing and it’s time to change with them. Strategies for books publishers in the digital age will continue to adapt to new concepts and challenges. In addition to marketing, distribution, and production, publishers must find innovative ways to present content. Finding success in digital publishing will be an ongoing process. However, for those who learn the lessons of digital production, there are significant rewards.
The size of the educational market will only increase, and the proportion of digital sales within that market will grow. By finding out what works for your company, you will be on the upside of this exciting opportunity and be able to maintain, and hopefully increase your market share and profit.

If you are planning to visit the Frankfurt Book Fair this year, don’t forget to look us up, we will be presenting (Our booth is located in Hall 4.2 – Education, Stand D64).
